Well, as you may know, i'm now 30, even though i may not admit to it.... i did in fact have a three year reunion of my 27th birthday last monday. the weekend of was quite eventful and i had an amazing time. i had duty on thursday so i came home late on friday and fell into the couch. poor jeff didnt get much out of me that night, he did manage to get me dinner and i was only functionable long enough to eat and fall back asleep. he even tried to tell me that he heard noises a lady doesn't normally make during sleep, so i dont believe him!
Saturday we lounged around for a while and then went for a hike in the afternoon. we hiked up to cowles mountain. it was only about a 1.5 mile hike up and on the easy level. the climb was not too bad but it went up to 1500 feet, which when you live at 100 or below, 1500 is quite the climb, but we managed. and then we decided that on our way down we would jog, it was a great trip and took us much less time to get down than it did to climb up. And i'm happy to say that i didnt even get hurt, although i did roll my ankles a few times, none were serious enough to injure me, which definitely made me happy but even more made jeff happy so he didnt have to carry me down!
we came home and made dinner and i had received in the mail the dvd and photo cds so we watched our wedding again and i arranged photos into photobooks and they came out beautifully. i just cant wait to get them.
sunday we celebrated my birthday with cassie, kris and cecelia at REI de Gado, a brazillian restaurant. it was amazing. later that day we went and saw One Day, with Anne Hathaway. it sure didnt end how i was hoping it would and yes i cried, but it was good. for dinner, we picked up tacos and went to the beach to watch the sun set and sat on the beach trying to fend off the hungry seagulls.... darn birds always wanted to eat our food. i did feel bad when jeff picked up his flip flop and looked at one of them, and they all scattered. makes me think they are trained to fly away when a shoe is thrown. poor birds.
we came home and got our belongings ready for work the next day and then went to fiesta island to watch the fireworks. it was like the perfect ending to the first 27+3 years of my life.
monday morning came and well.... it was a long day at work, it was painful but i got through it and even convinced jeff when i got home to take me out for dinner again!!! and we went out for sushi. it was delicious. we went to sushi deli and there was quite a crowd. the couple we sat next to appeared to be on their first date. i'm convinced from the topic there will not be a second. and if there is, it wont last long.
we got home and being that now i'm over the age of youngness and no longer in my 20's i felt it appropriate to go to bed at 9pm!
the week progressed and we managed to survive. the ship got underway for seatrials and we didnt sink! yeah!!! its difficult to be gone and we are preparing for our next stage of our lives when jeff leaves san diego again and heads to newport RI for 6 months. its okay, because i'll be gone for at least half of that, the only problem is that our time overlaps and we will be apart for about the next 8-9 months. i'm hoping that i'll be able to fly out to see him for a few days here and there.
so after 30 years here is what i've learned:
i still hate spiders, bugs and anything else that is creepy and crawly
laundry doesnt do itself, and neither do dishes
you're never to old to love, snuggle and just enjoy your spouse
the older you get, the harder it is to get up, and the harder it is to get into a workout habit if you don't already have one.
the weather always surprises you
but no matter what, your birthday is what you make of it, no one else thinks its special but you, so make the most of your day, celebrate for a week or a month if you like, take time to have it your way, it is after all your burger king!
